“Very little is needed to make a happy life; it is all within yourself, in your way of thinking.”

Marcus Aurelius

Do you believe this? Do you believe happiness is a choice? Can you choose happiness simply by changing your perspective?

If it is true that very little is needed to make us happy, then why are we constantly searching for more of everything?

Honestly I believe we are often way too focused on material items, and looking for the next “high”, that rush of having more possessions. We desire a bigger home, that we of course then have to fill with designer furniture. We covert the latest handbags from our favourite brand, or those shoes we saw in the shop window, we even have to buy a new outfit for every special occasion we attend, it never ends! If those possession brought us the happiness we are so desperately looking for then why are we out shopping again next week? Some possessions hold a special place in our heart and do bring us long term happiness, which is more associated with the memory or meaning behind the possession, rather than the possession itself, but most items hold no value after the initial high of buying them! If possessions, and money were what really gave us happiness, then why are so many wealthy people so unhappy?

The truth is, happiness does come from within, it comes from honesty, from authenticity, and no amount of money can buy that.

We need to be honest with ourselves, with our partners, and those close to us, we need to be true to our values, and live in a way that honours them. If you really want to be happy, start by being honest with yourself about what it is you need in order to be happy within yourself. Treat yourself with kindness, and show kindness to others. Ask yourself what you can do today that will allow you to feel inner peace, and give yourself permission to live fearlessly authentic.
