“Following your dreams, your passions is like fighting against life, it is easier to say that there is no time, there are too many things that need to be done today, fight this, fight this hard, because a life without dreams or passions can not be a life of fulfilment, fight for your inner self, fight for the freedom to be heard, fight to be you”

These weren’t always the words or motto I lived by. I pretty much lived in my comfort zone, content enough to be me, to be daughter, wife, mum, friend, but not daring to dig any deeper. Not trying to figure out what I really wanted for me. After all I didn’t want to be selfish, I didn’t want to stand in the spotlight saying “look at me, pay attention to me“. I didn’t even really want to pay attention to myself. Maybe in a way I was scared that if I tried to ‘create the life I wanted’ I would fail. Safer to stay exactly where I was and besides who has time to devote to ‘creating their ideal life’? I was busy, life is demanding with 3 kids, life is demanding even without kids, there is enough going on without trying to fit in ‘me time’ or time to entertain my own passions.

Well at least I thought so . . . But you know what I was wrong. Yes wrong. Spending some time on making myself happy doesn’t make me the selfish person I thought it might. In fact it is quite the opposite. How? Well when you are happy in your own skin and happy with your life the effect flows on. Really? Yes absolutely it really does. The more I delved into who I am, who I want to be, and what I am passionate about, the more I had of myself to give others.

Life is busy, but there is always room to fit in some time to discover who you really are, and what you really want. Even though your schedule might seem to have no space in it for ‘finding yourself‘ or ‘doing things you enjoy‘ you have to find that time! No matter what, you have to fight for yourself. No one else can do it for you, you have to make the decision that you are worth it!

It is OK to be scared, to be afraid of change, of taking a chance. You may even come up against resistance from others, not everyone is happy when you change, I know it is horrible, but some people like to hold others back so they can feel better about themselves. Don’t let people hold you back. Tell them how you feel, tell them you would love there support. Let people know that just because you are following you goals that they still fit into your life, in fact you will be an even better addition to their lives because you will be more fulfilled and happy. Be an inspiration for others. I know as a mum it wasn’t easy for me to go back to writing, my daughter was worried I wouldn’t have time for her the way I had before. I assured her I will always have time for her, and now I can see how much I have inspired her to show her creative side. I love that I am being a role model to my children letting them know that you can walk your own path in life.

I love this quote by George Bernard Shaw

Life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.

So let this become your motto and start creating the life you deserve, it is time to fight for you and follow your own path.
