She lay content on the sand, feeling its warmth seep into her body, holding her like a comforting hug. Her body was tired, it ached with all the worries of money, work, whether the children have enough of everything including her time. She often lay awake at night questioning her skills as a mother, was she enough, did she do enough, is she a strong enough role model? But as she lay there pushing her feet through the soft granules of sand and feeling it in-between her toes, she felt a lightness, a warmth a sense of peace. Her worries were drifting away along with the tide.

With her eyes closed and her arm hung loosely across her eyes she could concentrate on her other senses. She could smell the faint scent of the ocean breeze, mixed in with coconut and the shea butter in her sunscreen. As she licked her lips she could still taste the fresh tropical fruits she had eaten only moments before and she felt a warmth and contentment in her stomach.

With her free hand she reached down and ran her fingers through the fine sand, warm from the sunshine upon it. It was so well worn from the tides that it felt like silk between her fingers and toes. She placed both her hand on her stomach and breathed deeply feeling the gentle rise and fall of her breath in time with the crashing of the waves. She concentrated then on the sounds around her, hearing her own breath, the waves, a gentle rustle of leaves in the breeze. She could hear laughter, the kind that began with little giggles and moved through to full bouts of body shaking joy.

Happiness filled the air and consumed her heart. Peace. Love. Contentment. Fulfilment. Joy. Grace. Confidence. Beauty. Forgiveness. A letting go . . .

This was where she had always wanted to be. She sat up and opened her eyes . . . In front of her she saw the most beautiful sight in the world, her children playing, her children happy, healthy, loved, consumed by innocence and joy. They didn’t care about schedules, bills, about having ‘it’ all. They didn’t judge her, to them she was ‘mother’ she was everything to them as they were to her. Without trying she was already their perfect role model because she was exactly who she was meant to be, herself!

She stood up and stretched, her aches and pains were gone.  She threw off her colourful kaftan and ran into the water with careless abandon, and the only sounds heard from the treetops were the echoes of laughter.

This is my dream vacation today, tomorrow I may be lying on a hammock over a river, or sipping coffee in Italy, or perhaps I’ll explore the bazaars of Istanbul. No matter where my dream vacation is there continues to be one constant and that is my family, my family are always there.

Tweet me: “tomorrow I may be sipping coffee in Italy or perhaps I’ll explore the bazaars of Istanbul. Where would you go on your dream vacation?”

What about you? Where would you head to if you could choose your dream vacation? Trekking? Relaxing? Shopping? Theme parks? Who would you take? This prompt was provided by the lovely Wellness Wednesday hosts Rina and Maureen.

Thanks for joining me, love Mackenzie xx
