It seems everywhere I look Christmas is letting us know it will be upon us before we know it. The stores seem to fill there shelves with Christmas overload as soon as Halloween is over. Yes it is officially beginning to look a lot like Christmas!
It has got me thinking about Christmas traditions, and how we tend to follow the traditions of what our family has always done, but I am questioning is this the tradition I actually want to carry on with my own little family of five? I asked my hubby the other day, and we both agreed that we would like to think more about what Christmas means to us, and the memories we want to create with our little ones before they grow up and have families of their own. Now I realise that is quite a few years away yet! Still, I can not help but think that now is the time we should really be thinking if the traditions we are creating are really the ones we want to be, or if we should be thinking of our own ideas, rather than just following in our parents footsteps?

We count down to Christmas Day by reading one Christmas book per night from the 1st of December to the 25th of December.
It’s lots of fun, especially when the kids make their own Christmas story book to add to the collection of Christmas books.

We have an advent candle, and make christmas biscuits for our neighbours. All new traditions for my husband, I and our little sprogs. #ablogginggoodtime

I love that I get to create my own Christmas traditions with my own family. My two-year-old is finally old enough to ‘get’ Christmas so I’m looking forward to creating new memories. #ablogginggoodtime
Lovely images. I often wonder what it must be like if couples come together and have wildly different traditions or cultures for that matter. My husband goes along with my family’s traditions including opening presents in age order and watching people opening theirs and also a wonderful Boxing Day buffet – popping over from #ablogginggoodtime

One of the best I’ve heard is from a friend whose kids didn’t believe in Santa but decided it was Dr Who in the Tardis that came with the gifts (makes more sense) and the now 20 year old still writes a letter to the Dr who still writes back. I LOVE that they’ve created something that the 20 year old still likes…I can barely get anyone to decorate the tree with me….! My fave traditions are mine solo – I give to a group home each year, and I love choosing gifts for the teen boys (least popular in the charity world) and I do the bag of toiletries for homeless women, and I take great delight choosing things for the recipient. Other than Advent calendars, which I love, I’m a bit over Christmas….Oh, and we trek up to the Hunter Valley in a group to see the Hunter Valley Xmas Lights….#StayClassyMama
I love giving to charities too, it truly is a time to remember how lucky we are. I actually went shopping today for the Caroline Chisholm Foundation and brought some baby food and lovely Christmas things for the mums. The Hunter Valley sounds lovely too

We all have advent calenders and decorate our tree together as a family on the middle weekend of December – our wedding anniversary! Christmas Eve we have a drinks party for friends and family and attend Midnight Mass at our local church. Christmas Day we meet friends at a local pub for a glass of fizz and then it is home for a late afternoon lunch with my family, the Queen’s speech and exchange of presents. Boxing Day is always slower – a big walk followed by early evening supper. 30th December my husband’s family all gather in a hotel somewhere in the UK for a big family party and New Year for us is a quiet night in! Love the traditions. #ablogginggoodtime
We do a mix of our own and family ones. Christmas is great although i wish there was no stress attached to it #stayclassymama
There are several different cultures in my family each with their own traditions. My girls will most likely have a good old British Christmas though looking for Father Christmas in the sky and surrounded by the things we love doing as a family. #ablogginggoodtime
