Gratitude holds incredible power, it is an incredible gift you can share with others and with yourself. When you show gratitude towards people in your daily life you spread happiness and love and that is a beautiful thing to do. Not only does it make the person you are showing gratitude towards feel great, but it makes you happier too. It makes the inner you glow.

I brought myself a gratitude diary last year, every night I have to fill in 2 things I am grateful for that day. Now admittedly I don’t always fill it in, but I always feel happier when I do. It makes me realise the things in my life that I am thankful for and when you stop and write these down you realise that there are so many more than 2 things to be truly thankful for each and every day. Yes it is true even on the days that you are exhausted, run down, sick or miserable you can still think of more than 2 things to be grateful for.

Sometimes I jot down the little things like coffee, because some days let’s face it coffee is like my saviour. Other days it is something sweet like the big hug my 5 year old son gave me when he ran out of his classroom after school, or when he tells me how much he loves me. Sometimes it is my husband cooking an amazing meal, or giving me a back rub when I’m tired. Other times it’s the bigger things like having a healthy, happy family, and a warm home to live in. It’s my father in law still living a wonderful life even though the doctors said he wouldn’t survive this long. I am grateful for supportive friends, for sunshine and music, I am grateful for love and laughter. I could list so many things!

Last week I set you and myself a challenge to look at the positives in life and to have a positive attitude no matter what comes our way. To smile and find the good in people and situations. The more positive we are the more we attract positivity and happiness into our lives. This week I want to focus on gratitude, because to me the two go hand in hand. The way we look at life, the more grateful we are for the good in our lives, I believe makes us  more positive and happy people. The more positive and happy we are, the more we have to be grateful for.

Be grateful this week, thank people for the small things they do that make your life easier. Thank your partner, your friends, your children, the shop assistant,  a co-worker who always helps you out. Thank the teachers that teach your children, thank your parents, and even thank your dog for being so loyal.  And don’t forget to thank yourself! Thank your body for getting you around each day, or for birthing your children, thank your mind for being creative, your hands for doing so much. Be grateful for who you are, be grateful for life.
