This is your life, and it is time you made it the kind of life you really want to be living. No more excuses, no more saying “if only”! If your job sucks it is time to do something about it. In the wrong relationship? It’s time to make a change. It took me until 38 before I said to myself “it’s time to stop making excuses, you want to write? Then write!” It was easy to keep saying,
- I am not talented enough
- I will fail
- I don’t have any spare time to write
But enough with the excuses, successful women are not making excuses! So what are they doing? They are making plans and even more importantly, they are following through on theses plans, they are making their dreams happen, they are believing in themselves even if no one else does. Now I don’t want to hear you say that you can’t do that, because you can!
It is easy for us to think that successful women had it handed to them. They were born into money, they have a supportive partner, a rich husband, they have a university degree, or amazing looks that got them to where they are. OK so maybe for a few of them this is true, but for the majority it is far from true. It is easier for us to tell ourselves that these amazingly successful women didn’t have it tough like we do, but that is just an excuse we tell ourselves that stops us from pursuing our own goals.
The truth is we are scared. Scared of failure, humiliation, scared of how we will look to family and friends if we don’t succeed. Scared that will will be embarrassed on Facebook. We are scared that we will look like the ‘bad guy‘ if we leave a relationship that is sucking the life out of us. We are afraid that people will say “I told you so“. OR “I knew you wouldn’t last a week“. But successful women said “ I don’t care what people say, I am going to follow my dream!”
I shook like a leaf the first time I let my hubby read a chapter of my novel that I was writing. He is very well read and I was scared (as I knew he would be honest, and I wanted him to be,) that he would tell me it was not very good. I was wrong, he thought I had talent, it was time that I started to believe I had talent.
The road to success is not always easy. It is not financially easy, it can put a strain on relationships, it can show you who really supports you and surprise you by who doesn’t. Some people will want to hold you back, don’t let them. Listen to advice that comes with good intention, but filter out the people who just want to stop you achieving the positive changes you need to make in order to be a happier you.
Don’t make success about making money, make it about following your passions, make it about making you happy, not greedy. You will not be fulfilled by money (yes money helps, but it does not fill your heart), you will only find true success and happiness if you have good intentions. Some people say you don’t need to be kind on the way up because you never plan on coming down. I disagree, I say be kind on the way up because people will remember that kindness and share it, and good karma will come your way. Besides it is lonely at the top if their is no one to share the view with you.
- Start by being specific about what it is you want.
- Write an honest list, make it as long as you need, pour your heart out, what are your dreams?
- Write a list of what you feel, or who you feel is holding you back. Take a good look at it and realise that sometimes you have to end relationships, or friendships that are toxic to you and your future. This can be hard, and very painful, but you need to do it.
- Think about what you need to grow, what you need to learn to make you stronger, what you need to be happier and healthier.
- What are you living without that you feel is stopping you from being truly happy and fulfilled?
- Make some really clear and focused goals!
- Visualise what you want, see it, feel it, desire it, believe in yourself and your vision.
It is time to put your dreams and goals into categories. Think about each of these areas and what is lacking. What do you want in these areas of your life?
- Relationships
- Career
- Health
- Finance
- Travel
- Family
- Community
- Inner peace
Make your goals clear for each area, what really matters to you the most in each area?
This is what successful women do, they make clear cut goals. Once these goals are made, put them into short term or long term goals. Then focus on the short term ones. If you try to do too much at once you will feel overwhelmed and are more likely to give up, so it is important to prioritise. You will be amazed how moving towards one goal helps create momentum to more towards the next. This also sends positive vibes to the universe and in turn things start happening easier than you first found them happening. People see the new you and you become like a magnet, good things, new opportunities and good people are drawn towards you.
So start today, get out a journal, or open your laptop and start writing down what you want for your life! It is OK to want a better life for yourself! You deserve good things, now go out an make them happen.
Be a successful woman!

I have been putting a lot of thought into what I really want to do once all my little ones are in all day school. Before I decided to stay home I worked in the beauty industry and I have kept my license up just in case. But I’m really enjoying doing my photography and design work as well. And now I have a new plan in the works but will wait to reveal it when I’ve completed the first phase. I really think I enjoy a variety of success. Thanks so much for hostessing!
My personal goals at this moment are to remain true to myself and stand strong in my faith. Sometimes life can feel like a jumbled mess where everything blends together and becomes cloudy and confusing. I find that keeping my mind clear of the distractions and focused on what’s most important fosters success and feelings of accomplishment and worth. Wonderfully motivating post, Mac! Thank you for hosting #mg! xx
I love this post, Mackenzie, and will be taking some time to take stock and set some new goals.(I pinned it to work through.) This is a really in depth post that forces you to face yourself and your truths to get more out of life. Thank you for this! #AnythingGoes
This is very inspiring! I am inspired to go back to write my stories I have been writing since 2006 but have been putting if off because despite the fact that people who read them love them, I am still uncertain but you have it right. Fear gets in the way of success. Thanks for hosting your amazing linky #mg
This is another beautifully inspiring & motivating post Mackenzie! I think that it’s important to stop now & then & assess what we want from life & how to get it. I’m loving blogging & it’s my goal to grow my blog. I don’t set specific goals each month but that’d be a good idea! Thank you for hosting #MG
Love this! It’s so important to focus on the things you love rather than get caught up with what other people think you should be doing. 🙂 Have a great week and thanks for hosting
Aren’t you just Miss Motivation? This is an excellent post! True to form, February always brings a mid winter funk around here, and my blog collects dust, but I did manage to throw together a quickie in honour of Pi day today 🙂 Have a happy week!
I love this post, it’s so positive and motivating! It is good to stop and take stock sometimes and, think about what you really want, rather than what you think you should want! I am on a journey to take care of my mental health and I am learning to live more in the moment, I am hoping to master that. Thank you Mac for this great start to the week xx
Oh and for hosting xx
Gosh another amazing and inspiring post. I am still unsure about what I REALLY want in life, other than being a mummy, I’ve never quite found something that I love quite as much as I do writing. I guess what I want is to take that further and concentrate on my own health too, as parents we often overlook our own needs for those of our children. Thanks for this. #mg
Such a fab post huni, very inspiring. I love setting goals and working to achieve them xx
Amen to the clear cut goals. All too often, our goals are a bit too broad. By making the more specific, it’s easier to make a plan on how to achieve that goal.

Very inspiring and motivating post. I’m feeling a bit stuck in a rut at the minute, I’m unemployed and just completely clueless what I want to do with my life career wise. I need to sit down and make a plan. Definitely going to write a list and set myself some goals to work towards xx #mg
Just brilliant – and I didn’t just click on this because you were the post next to mine – I would have done anyway! Just a brilliant inspirational post and I agree with everything you say – successful women aren’t just handed it to them on their plate – they work damn hard and your post is so motivational – love your style of writing too – thank you for firing me up today! #abitofeverything
Hi Mac,
Thank you for this. It is a really motivating post. Thank you for writing it. I think I need to start thinking more clearly about what my goals are and to stop making excuses. There is no need. I can achieve what I want to. #mg Pen x
So very true. It’s hard. It’s hard to let yourself go there, it’s hard to differentiate your own idea of success from the ‘traditional’ corporate powerhouse or mother or wife…
This is such a motivational post! I think you 100% need to believe in yourself and if you want something, go for it, noone will do it for you. Thanks for linking up with us #bigpinklink and for sharing your linky, I try and get all my commenting done first and then I can hopefully pop back and join yours. 😀
Thank you for picking me as your featured writer! I am so honoured.
This is an amazing post. I know I say this a lot but it is true. You write amazingly inspiring posts! I always hear your voice whenever I have my moments of doubt. You have hit the nail on its head – yes, it is about not making excuses. It is about making plans and like you, I too believe in karma. What comes around goes around. #mg
Thanks for sharing with #abitofeverything…Loving the badge BTW.
