It is not always easy to stay motivated and be as productive as we would like in our daily lives as a parent, or in our career. I recently published an article about curiosity and how following our natural born curious nature can help us lead a happier and more productive life. To read about this just click HERE. But today I want to share some other tips on how to expand your chances for success and happiness, and to improve motivation in the areas you feel you are lacking that ‘get up and go‘ in.

What is it that makes some people more successful in their lives than others? I love this quote above by Steve Jobs as I truly believe that when we embrace our curiosities and have a hunger for knowledge and life, we are more likely too succeed! But I also love how he says “Stay foolish“, I think if we try to be to precise and analytical we often talk ourselves out of giving things a try. We give up before we dare to start!

I am not a great ‘morning person’, and many of my university assignments were written well into the night. But the truth is that most successful people have one thing in common and this is a great morning routine. Whether your morning starts at 5am, or 9am making a few healthy changes to your morning routine will help you become a more successful person in your life, in love and in your career aspirations.

  •  Many people swear by a morning cup of coffee to get them going in the morning, but if you switch to a warm cup of water with some freshly squeezed lemon it is said to be a natural energy source which also aids digestion, improves liver function, bowel movements and reduces our daily stress levels.
  • Everyone has heard by now that exercise improves your mood (and let’s face it we can all do with being in a better mood in the morning), but it can also help us focus. If you want to be more productive and happier to be around try doing even just ten minutes of exercise before work or study.
  • Don’t check your phone the minute you wake up! (Except to see the time). Looking at your phone for missed calls overnight, texts or tweets can cause stress before your morning routine has even began. Give yourself time to wake up properly and enjoy your workout and shower before looking at what’s happening on social media.
  • In relation to the above dot point the same goes for emails! No matter how important you are, even if you are a company owner or CEO, your email can wait 20 minutes for you to get up have a warm glass of lemon water, a ten minute walk and a quick shower. Unless you are Superman/woman or Batman/woman I am sure an email can wait 20 minutes.
  • Breakfast. Yes I know that those of you who don’t eat breakfast will be (just about) impossible to convince to start now. But we all know that to get our brain functioning properly a healthy breakfast is so important. Take the time to eat a healthy breakfast, even if it means getting up a little earlier. Some healthy cereal, fresh fruit, yoghurt, or eggs with spinach. Even if you prepare a bowl the night before to save time, or take a homemade smoothie in the car with you, you need to eat breakfast. Plus if you are a parent it is important to lead by example with your kids to set them up for future health and success. When Steve jobs says ‘stay hungry‘ I am sure he means with your hunger for knowledge or achievements, not food!

Starting with a good morning routine followed by a healthy dose of curiosity and hunger for life will be guaranteed to lead to a happier and more productive life for you and those around you. Do you have a good morning routine? Share your tips for success with us below.
