Ever had that moment where someone says something and you are like WHAT? Where did that come from? Having kids, or just being around kids this happens quite a bit. The other day Adam (my five year old, soon to be six) was playing Mario on the Wii U when he happily turned to me and said he had 5 lives and this was great because he was five!
“Yes, but you will be six soon”, was my response.
“Oh no”! Adam exclaims. So this surprised me as he has been counting down the sleeps, telling anyone he can that it’s soon his birthday. He has been super excited, so why the oh no response?
“What’s wrong with turning six”? I enquire.
“My body won’t work as good”. He explains. What?????
“What do you mean”? I ask, really wanting to know.
“Well daddy is 40 now and his body doesn’t work very good”! SAY WHAT?????? I mean yes daddy may complain about the odd sore back, but he is healthy and active, he walks the dogs daily, cooks, builds things around the house, plays rough with Adam, there is no real evidence of his body not working so well, well as far as I can tell. Maybe a five year old looks at his parents bodies as pretty pathetic?
“Daddy’s body is working just fine”. I say.
“But not like mine”. Well I can’t argue that.
“Maybe when you are six you will be even stronger” I suggest. His little face lights up!
“Wow that would be cool”! He exclaims. “Aspen (his eleven year old sister) is older an she is stronger than me, so I will be stronger when I’m six”. With that sorted he is all excited about his birthday again and he turns back to his game. Discussion over!
In two sleeps my baby boy turns six! Where did the time go? His upcoming birthday both excites and scares me. I miss having my newborn, I miss having my toddler, but he is so sweet at this age too. Gaining independence, yet also showering me with kisses, hugs and loads of I love you mummy, or you’re so pretty mummy. He is adorable. Kids really do say the most interesting things.
Thanks for joining me, love Mackenzie xx

This was funny. Kid logic.
crazy huh!
It is amazing the things they get into their heads. My son is 6 too and it is such a lovely age but I know what you mean about being missing them being younger. It all happens so fast in hindsight. Lovely photo. Kirsten
Thanks Kirsten, oh you have a 6 year old too, it is a great age
Ah the time goes by waaaay to fast! Beautiful baby photo! Your son is wise beyond his years & gives things a lot of thought. I’m glad you reassured him about getting older. I hope he has a wonderful birthday. Thank you for hosting #mummyandus x
he is a wise little one and very cheeky!
So glad you could link up, yes he is wise and cheeky too
Love how his little brain works! That is so cute! #mummyandus

I just love how a kid’s mind works. They just cut straight to the chase and the simplest answer suffices i.e. you will be stronger. Why can’t adults be the same?!?!? I bet it was difficult to keep a straight face though when he said Daddy was falling apart hahaha In our house that comment would have definitely been directed at me. Beautiful baby photo. Hope he has a great birthday – photo’s please! 🙂 #mummyandus
Awww how sweet. #mummyandus
Ahh, that is so sweet! it is scary how quickly children grow up, my Mia is over 2 now and I do miss having a baby at times 🙂
#mummyandus
it really does go so quickly, 2 is such a cute age
You’re little boy is funny, it’s amazing how they process the world! When my youngest was 3 he said the weirdest thing; ‘When I die and get my new body I’m going to…’ well I can’t remember the rest because I was so stunned about hearing the word ‘die’ and ‘new body’ come out of his mouth!! A goose bump moment that I still can’t explain!! Good to be linking up with #mummyandus, it’s been a while!
Funny and scary questions out of the blue, isn’t it?
Love this part of childhood:)

Kid logic is magnificent! 🙂 #mummy&us
Kids minds…wouldn’t you love to see whats going on in there?! He sounds like a very thoughtful chap, like his mummy? It must be sad leaving the baby days behind…I have the odd twinge now and again but definitely (?) stopping at two. Each age and stage brings its own highs and lows I’m sure. x MMT #coolmumclub
PS Aspen – what a beautiful name x
