Lately things have been a little stressful for me, (as life gets at times), and some unexpected things have happened and cropped up that have left me feeling a little flat. This got me thinking about what I enjoy and what relaxes me. Interior design is one of my passions and it certainly relaxes me (I am sure some of you are like WHAT how is that relaxing?) But when you don’t put pressure on yourself to have everything “perfect” it can actually be an enjoyable and relaxing process to organise your home and design it in a way that makes you feel nurtured.

A home should always be welcoming! It should feel like a warm hug, a safe haven, everyone should feel safe in their homes and feel like they have found a space that reflects their own unique qualities.

I know it is not a perfect world, and many people are unfortunately not going home to a safe environment, it breaks my heart. And if you are not safe in your home please seek help, talk to someone you can trust! (Please see some links at the bottom of this post if you need help, or if you wish to volunteer to help others).

We have had a delay on us being able to move into our new home, I am itching to get in! We have been so lucky that my parents have put up with us for the past months whilst our home has been being built. I mean it’s not just my hubby and I, it is 3 children under 11 years, 1 dog (along with their own 2 dogs), our 3 cats and our 6 bunnies! Not to mention they have an avery full of birds lol. Lucky they live on land in the country. But as lovely as it is here I am lacking that feeling of being able to nurture my family (does that make sense?) I know home is where the heart is and my heart is wherever my family are, but not having a space for us is hard. I feel selfish saying that, as I know how truly blessed I am having a safe place to lay my head and care for my children. I just can’t wait to set up our own nurturing space that reflects us!

I think that is why making a home that reflects who you are is so important.

Interior design is so much more than the perfect colour palate, the trendy furniture, the latest art, or impressing visitors, it is about YOU! It is about reflecting and nurturing the people who call it home!

I have written posts before about styling to the beat of your own drum, and I believe this with all my heart. Make your home about you, don’t get lost in what others think, don’t put yourself in debt over things that you won’t even want in a few years. Be content with a smaller home if that is what you have. I see so many people who work every weekend just to pay their mortgage and they miss out on enjoying their home, their partner, their families. A smaller home is better for the environment and it will allow you freedom to spend time doing the things in life that nurture you. If you can afford a large home, or you have 6 kids then I can see that a bigger home may be in order, but more importantly enjoy your life and your family. Don’t get caught up in materialism. Buy things that you love, that you feel improve your life, never buy something that is to impress someone else.

I will continue to make Wednesday posts about styling, but I am adding a different element as well. I will continue to give tips on styling and once I am in my home I will share parts of it with you. I do this though to inspire you to be happy in your own homes, to give you ideas that maybe you will like and maybe you won’t. I will share some cheaper options and some expensive ones just as an example of what is out there, but always remember to work within your own budget when styling. What I will also be doing is sharing ideas and photos of ways to simplify your life, I may also share a recipe now and then, or talk about my pets, I plan on making Wednesdays all about HOME. Home entails loads of things, from the front yard, right through to the back, to the people in it, the animals, the visitors and even cooking and cleaning. So I hope you will stop by on Wednesdays and see just what we are getting up to in my home and maybe you will share what you are up to with me too.

Thanks for joining me, love Mackenzie xx
