I wanted to touch upon the topic of International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day which was this week on 15 October.

The day culminates in an “International Wave of Light”, a world-wide lighting of candles, hence the above photograph. If you follow social media you will have no doubt seen so many images of candles that evening. As a mother who has been through several pregnancy losses, it is comforting to know that although I will never hold my babies, hear their giggles, watch them learn to crawl, walk, see them off on their first day of school with their backpacks that are way too big, or see them develop into the amazing people I know they would have been, to see how many people thought to light a candle meant so much. When you lose a baby you can feel incredibly alone and it is hard for others who haven’t been through it to understand your grief, so it is days like this that make you realise you are not alone. In fact sadly there are so many grieving parents, siblings and families.

So to anyone who has suffered loss, my heart goes out to you, and my thoughts are with you.
